I believe that a strong Liberal Party is a Liberal Party that engages, includes and listens to youth voices. I have been very blessed to have been part of our Liberal family for many years now, and I want to help our party reach it's full potential by being a conduit for action and engagement when it comes to young people.
Ray has had many opportunities to work with both the Nova Scotia Liberal Party and the Liberal Party of Canada. He is currently the leader of the Nova Scotia branch of the Young Liberals of Canada. In that role, he has more than doubled the number of campuses with Liberal Clubs and reached out to thousands of young Nova Scotians through Social Media and a brand new website. Ray served as Deputy Campaign Manager to the Honourable Patricia Arab during the 2017 Nova Scotia election, he worked on the successful campaigns of Andy Fillmore, who unseated Deputy NPD Leader Megan Leslie. Ray also worked on Speaker Geoff Regan’s Campaign in 2015. In 2013, he served as the Hon. Patricia Arab's Youth Chair in her first successful provincial campaign. Ray currently works as the Hon. Patricia Arab's Legislative Assistant and Outreach Coordinator.
Ray has always seen the importance of engaging youth in the political process. As Prime Minister Trudeau often says, youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are the leaders of today. Ray takes every opportunity he gets to advocate for youth and their interests and is passionate about issues, like student debt and climate change, that get young people fired up. Ray takes the time to seek out opinions from young people and encourages them to be as vocal as they can about issues that impact them every day.
From a very young age, Ray has been passionate about helping others and serving his community. During his high school years, Ray served as the Co-President of the Halifax West High School Student Government. In that role, Ray spearheaded the annual fundraiser in support of cancer research, Head for a Cure. That year, Halifax West broke their record and raised an incredible $20,000 for cancer research. When Fort McMurray was battling the worst fires we as a country had seen in years, Ray led a fundraiser to provide relief to the families in dire need.
Ray has always been keen to help others be their best selves. While in High School, Ray lead "Warriors Against Bullying", his school's anti-bullying task force. Ray has worked with the Children's Wish Foundation to organize a Charity Hockey Tournament in support of their worthwhile and important efforts. Ray volunteers with ISANS, a group that helps refugees and newcomers settle into their new home, Nova Scotia. He has also organized record-breaking food drives in support of Feed Nova Scotia.
Ray served as the Student Chair of CSLC, during its 2015 conference in Halifax. It is the largest youth leadership event in Canada. It brings together student leaders from around the country in order to share ideas and celebrate successes of countless student organizations from across the country.
Ray finds meaning and inspiration from his Maronite Catholic faith. Being a Christian is Ray's bedrock, and he tries to live out his christian values everyday. He will bring those values of love, selflessness and respect for others to the positon of Vice President of Organization for the Young Liberals of Canada. One way Ray gives back to his Church is by teaching Sunday School every Sunday to grade 9 students.
